From a WCLK press release:
WCLK “The Jazz of the City” announces the launch of The Takeaway with John Hockenberry and Adaora Udoji, a fresh, new, morning drive-time news and talk program.
The Takeaway is a live program that is conversational and energetic, thoroughly covering critical news events and trends. Each edition invites listener input and response in real-time, generating lively exchanges on local, national and global issues.
The Takeaway will begin airing on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, weekdays, beginning Monday, June 2 from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m.
“Research shows that public radio listeners are tuning in more and more to news and talk magazine programming than ever before, and there’s unprecedented interest in this year’s presidential campaign,” says Wendy Williams, General Manager, WCLK.
Yay! indeed, but if they were really smart they’d air that crap from 9-10am, when most of us are running to turn off our radios before the sound of Lois Reitzes makes our heads a’splode.

Yeah, let’s hope they will shift the programming to do just that. Before the time-suck-waste that is Lois Reitzes’ SIX HOUR BLOCK OF POINTLESS PROGRAMMING makes me start listening to yet another righty blow-hard all morning. And I haven’t even started on what the sound of that drippy-awful ridiculous voice makes me do…

According to WCLK, the Takeaway people have created the show to be live. So they want it programmed… live. That means it’s unlikely anyone will be switching it to a 9am block. Still… the person who can put something newsy and talky in that starting-9am time slot, other than the commercial stations of course, would seem to be on the right track to steal from the anti-Lois Reitzes audience.
